ASSEGAIA’S Unified Advocacy for Sacred Sites

The ASSEGAIA Alliance exemplifies the power of collaborative advocacy for Sacred Site preservation
and natural landscape conservation. Key Achievements:

1. Creation of a Landmark Declaration:

● Drafted the “Declaration for the Protection of Indigenous Sacred Gardens” during a week-long conference in South Africa (August 2019).

● The Document was launched by the ASSEGAIA Alliance on January 21, 2020 during the WEF World Economic Forum Davos. The declaration calls on Governments, the United Nations, international organizations, local communities and private sector companies to adopt an eco-centric Model for protecting natural landscapes.

● This includes a holistic approach that prioritizes the Rights of nature and protects the indigenous Communities that protect, conserve and restore these Sites. In support of the Declaration, indigenous Elders held Ceremonies at 12 sacred Sites around the World.

2. Global Collaboration:

● Involved 24 international experts, including scientists, conservationists, environmental advocates, spiritual leaders, Indigenous leaders, global NGO’s, and human rights experts.

● More than 50 organizations endorsed the declaration, forming a unified voice for advocacy.

3. Cultural and Spiritual Support:

● Indigenous elders held simultaneous ceremonies at 12 sacred sites worldwide to affirm the declaration’s importance and align spiritual energies.

● This declaration sets a precedent for conservation efforts that prioritize the rights of nature and indigenous communities, demonstrating the effectiveness of global collaboration in
protecting our shared heritage.
